The Center for Health Transformation is a think tank[1] that brings together both "private and public sector leaders" to improve American health care.[2] Founded by Newt Gingrich in 2003 - he stepped down from its leadership position when he started his 2012 presidential campaign[1] -, CHT is a private "corporate for-profit organization"; Nancy Desmond is the current CEO.
Rather than making small fixes in the current health care system, CHT proposes to change it through a large-scale "transformation" by bringing the various stakeholders and politicians together. It is envisioned that all Americans will be insured and receive effective and efficient health care at lower cost. CHT sees its mission to "create, advance and improve the public policies"[3] in collaboration with the stakeholders that include insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, employers, unions, health care providers and patient advocates.
In 2011 Dan Eggen reported that CHT made at least $37 million dollars over 8 years by billing health care companies and industry groups who as members paid up to $200,000 annual fees.[4] While lobbying activity is denied, CHT indicates that it is able to bridge the link to government agencies and has a "network of allies" in the Federal and State governments,[1] and special access to Gingrich was offered in its materials.[4]
CHT issues the Health Reform Report.
